Broadcast Journalism
Broadcast journalism is something I would consider a personal weakness; our staff made great strides during my senior year, putting together many individual videos as well as video series for our social media. We had opinion shows, election coverage, sports coverage, news updates, and more. However, I didn't participate in many of these and felt motivated to work more on videography in college. Here is essentially the only video of significance that I took part in with the Omega.
Mary Beth Tinker Interview
During our visit to Washington, D.C. in November 2019 for the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention, I scored an interview with legendary students' rights activist Mary Beth Tinker, a plaintiff in the landmark SCOTUS case Tinker v. Des Moines (1969).
Our multimedia editor Nolen Stevens filmed while I thought of some questions on the fly and picked Tinker's brain about the state of student use of the First Amendment. I wish we did more to promote this video because I felt it was a great interview and not many people viewed it on YouTube.
